IDENTIFY2020 – Ping Identity Conference Report

A can’t miss event for IAM professionals

Keeping up with Ping Identity developments is mandatory for those of us who do Identity and Access Management for a living. This week, Ping held their annual Identify conference, Identify2020 online. Many of the announcements in the Keynote address were evolutionary updates, but there were some huge surprises:

Highlights from the Keynote

  • They highlighted their integration with the AWS management console and Ping Identity software images on both AWS and Azure. This will streamline the deployment of Ping products for organizations that leverage those cloud providers for application delivery.
  • They added PingAccess to the PingCentral deployment and orchestration portal. This extends the ability for developers and business users to deploy Ping solutions, allowing them to deploy PingAccess authorization templates on demand.
  • They highlighted the work they’ve done to containerize deployment of Ping Software.
  • They demoed PingCloud, a great new portal for the deployment of Ping Identity solutions in a hybrid or multi-cloud environment. It is currently available for PingOne customers but will be extended to all Ping Customers by the end of the year.
  • They announced a new cloud-hosted MFA service, Ping One MFA. While cloud MFA is not new for Ping, this new service does not require application owners to use the Ping MFA app. App developers can embed MFA capabilities backed by the ping cloud directly into any app. This can be achieved by integration with the Ping One MFA API.
  • They announced advanced User Behavior Analytics as a service, integrated with existing PingOne services, under the name “PingOne Risk Management.”
  • The most impressive announcement from a Demo perspective was the “ShoCard,” a capability they got through an acquisition. ShoCard is a consumer identity technology that allows you to digitize your real-world IDs, such as a driver’s license. Using a proprietary app, you can validate the security features on the ID and verify that your face matches the picture. After that, the app has a verified digital representation of your ID, which you can use just like the physical ID. There are many fascinating ideas in this concept, and it probably deserves a post of its own.

In Summary…

The themes of the keynote were accelerating cloud deployments, enabling zero-trust, and centralizing control and administration.
